Welcome to Mrs. Madeira’s second grade class
Hello, my name is Mrs. Amy Madeira. I have been teaching 2nd grade at Saint Michael’s School for 26 years. Saint Michael’s School is a great community, and I am always excited when in the classroom and teaching children. My goal is to make the students successful lifelong learners. I want my classroom to be a safe place for children to be able to learn freely and at their own levels. My classroom fosters an environment that is very active and I believe that children learn best when they have opportunities to work in small groups and have discussions about what they are learning. Every child brings something unique to the classroom and any input from students is EXTREMELY important. Children learn in so many different ways and in my class, they are allowed to demonstrate their learning in a way that best fits their needs. If you have any questions or concerns, please email me directly at amadeira@smsfr.dfrcs.org.
The Sacraments are a very important part of second grade.
Students will receive their First Reconciliation and First Eucharist in the spring. This is a continuation of the studies from first grade as well as continued attendance at Sunday Mass. In addition to First Reconciliation and First Eucharist preparation, students on a daily basis will learn how to live out their faith by; attending weekly Mass on Wednesdays, praying, learning about Jesus, learning about the many Saints, and they will grow to have a better understanding of the virtues.
There is a wonderful website called Formed.org that we use in class but it is also accessible at home. Featured are some great videos for both parents and students to learn more about their Faith. You can visit formed.org and click SIGN UP. Search by zip code and select St. Joseph’s St. Michael’s Parishes.
Your child’s health and safety is a priority.
Students are required to bring in headphones. These headphones need to have wires to be able to plug into the computers. Wireless headphones are NOT allowed. Each student needs their own headset. Please place them in a labeled, gallon size Ziploc bag, for easy storage in the classroom. Please, no need to get the most expensive headset, as they will be left in the classroom and returned at the end of the school year.
To help with healthy habits, tissues, hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes, baby wipes and paper towels are always accepted throughout the year and are greatly appreciated.
Technology and Homework Guidelines
Technology is extremely important in this day and age. Since all students have their own Chromebook while at school, technology will be used on a daily basis. Google Classroom has been an important part of school, and students will continue to use this as well as many other learning resources to help enhance their academic learning. Homework will be given nightly and at times use of a computer is necessary.
