Welcome to Ms. Griffin’s Class!
Welcome to Middle School! Welcome to Middle School Social Studies and Religion (7th & 8th)! These years should lay a solid foundation of virtue from which your spiritual, social, and intellectual life can grow with confidence. In our social studies classes we will study how the attributes of different regions of the earth affect the people that live there, how growth/progress often brings about new challenges, and how humans work together to address these issues and many other age-old ones. In 8th grade we will learn about how people decide to shape and run society by focusing on our nation and state. By getting to know the world around us and its history we will get to know ourselves better and marvel at God’s providence. We will follow state and diocesan standards, but we will also have an opportunity to dive deeper into some subjects that are important to our Catholic heritage.
About Ms. Griffin: This is my first year at St. Michael, but my third year teaching Social Studies at a Catholic Middle School and I have one more year of experience in a North Carolina (where I am originally from) public Middle School as a long term substitute teaching mostly math. My undergraduate degree was a BA in Theatre from Berea College, a Liberal Arts School, in KY. After graduating I took my commitment to life-long learning seriously and continued to earn many credits in Theology and other Humanities that qualify me to teach Social Studies and Religion. Now, I am enrolled at Providence College for my Masters in Education through the PACT program. After summer classes I’m looking forward to putting all my past experiences and all that I just learned to use in the service of God and the lovely families at St. Michael’s. We are always on the lookout for classroom supplies: paper towels, tissues, and disinfecting wipes so we can stay healthy while we enjoy learning together. Thank you for helping to keep us healthy!
