Welcome to Pre-K 4!
Students in Pre-K 4 spend their year developing the skills they will need to excel as scholars in all areas of the curriculum. During this fundamental year, students acquire the building blocks of school readiness skills needed to become active readers and mathematicians. Most importantly, at Saint Michael’s School, our Pre-K 4 students are also faithful stewards as they grow closer to Christ.
a day in the life of a student in this class…
…begins with prayer in our school hall with the whole school. After prayer, we proceed to the classroom and settle in for a day of learning. We start our day with morning circle - calendar, weather, talk about our daily activities, prayers and salute the flag. During snack time we enjoy healthy snacks together. After snack we head outside to play in our playground. When we return to class we engage in student centered, teacher directed activities and free play which include opportunities to play in the kitchen area, build with legos, create with play dough, strengthen engineering skills with blocks, as well as dramatic play. After all that work, we are hungry and head to the cafeteria for lunch. Once we’ve eaten, we are ready for rest time. Our afternoon provides an opportunity to enjoy story time together and review all the great things we learned during the day. When the day is over, we are dismissed to share the stories of our day with our families.
Throughout the school year we will work on the alphabet, numbers, colors, shapes, holidays and much more. We sing, dance, and create all day long. We have gym twice a week and attend Mass weekly. Children learn best through play and when you enter our classroom that is just what you will find - happy children playing and learning.

What We do in pre-k 4…
Routine is an important part of setting a child up for success, and we follow the same schedule throughout the week (adding in specials, and any important events, as they occur.) Our days begin and end in prayer with our school community.
8:30-9AM - backpack and lunch box check as we take attendance and begin circle time
9-9:30AM - snack and outdoor play, weather permitting
9:30-10:45AM - centers and learning time
10:45-11:10AM - clean up, bathroom break and getting ready for lunch
11:10-11:45AM - lunch
12-12:30PM - bathrooms, and getting ready for nap time
12:30-1:30PM - nap or quiet rest time
1:30-2:30PM - afternoon snack, story time, pack up and dismissal

Classroom supplies LIST
To keep our classroom clean and healthy, we ask for the following supplies to be brought in by each student at the start of the school year:
a box of tissues
disinfecting wipes (Lysol, Clorox, etc.)
paper towels
hand sanitizer
Also, we ask that each child have one of the following:
backpack
lunchbox
small pillow and blanket for rest time
change of clothes, in case of an accident (please be sure to send in a gallon size Ziploc bag with your child’s name on it the following items: pants, shirt, underpants and socks, in case of an accident or spill.)
